What is hypnosis?

There are many misconceptions and superstitious beliefs regarding hypnosis.  Hypnosis is an altered state of mind.  The mindset is altered similar to a daydream, or intense concentration (as in watching TV or driving). We all enter into a form of hypnosis several times every day through these activities.

Hypnosis is a tool you can use to tap into the power within you to adjust habits of thought, feeling and behavior.  Hypnotherapy assists in changing behavior by replacing old, negative programming with strong, positive suggestions to adjust habits of thought, feeling and behavior to achieve the changes you desire.

How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis works by allowing the brain to move from a wide-awake state (beta brain wave level) into one of the more relaxed states of consciousness (alpha, theta or delta brain wave levels). By moving from your wide-awake state into a more relaxed state of consciousness, properly worded suggestions are easily accepted by your subconscious mind.  Your subconscious mind will not accept suggestions that go against your desires, morals or beliefs.

Can I be hypnotized?

Hypnosis is a 100% consent state.  Everyone can be hypnotized because everyone has a subconscious mind.  However, it can only occur if you allow it.   If you want to be hypnotized, you can be hypnotized.  Hypnosis and its use in clinical therapy is endorsed by the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association.
